The Bardo teachings of Tibetan Buddhism are extremely profound presentations of the cycle of life and death, unlike few other cultures have produced. They illustrate the Buddhist view of life as a cycle, an eternal being born and dying again until one breaks the cycle of rebirths through insight into the true nature of the mind and all phenomena. That would be the perfect awakening, the experience of the Buddha state.
Until then, we continue to wander in samsara, the wheel of existences.
But how exactly can we understand this wandering and this cycle and the inner experiences that go with it?
Bardo means intermediate state, phase or interval. It refers to the great stages of birth, life, death and the states between death and re-embodiment.
This weekend Acharya Lama Kelzang Wangdi will give an introduction into the view of the Bardo teachings. This will prepare two further weekends that will go into further details according to the Bardo teachings as they are found in the approximately 1,500 year old Tibetan Book of the Dead by Padmasambhava, the lotus-born master. It is not only about a description of the Bardo states, but also about the possibilities to free oneself from the, after all, illusionary experience of life and death.
