Tilopa’s Mahamudra Chant on the Ganges
Nagarjuna’s Praise of the Dharmadhatu
Basic Course on Tibet

This six-day course combines profound Buddhist wisdom teachings with meditation, lively community interaction, and a basic course in the Tibetan language.

In addition to Lama Kelzang, Arne Schelling and Rebecca Hufen will also be teaching—two experienced teachers and practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism who possess special qualities as translators of the Dharma teachings into German.

In the mornings, Lama Kelzang will teach from the famous text by the great Indian Mahasiddha Tilopa, known as “Mahamudra Song on the Ganges,” which is available in Sanskrit and Tibetan as a root text and in commentaries. He introduces the profound view of the essence of mind, on which the entire Mahamudra tradition is based, which developed from Tilopa’s teachings. This enables practitioners of the Buddhist path and meditation practice to experience a special inner atmosphere that corresponds to the taste of the nature of mind.

For example, the fourth verse of Tilopa’s song says:
“Mists rise from the earth and disappear into space.
They go nowhere, nor do they remain.
And likewise, although waves of thoughts arise,
they dissolve again as soon as the mind sees itself.”

Every afternoon, Arne Schelling will teach Nagarjuna’s rarely taught text on the true nature of mind. This text deals primarily with Buddha nature—referred to in this context as Dharmadhatu. Nagarjuna shows how Buddha nature is present in all beings, temporarily obscured, and can be revealed in its full bloom. The focus is on the actual experience of the living awareness of the mind. Arne will explain this wonderful text to reveal the essence of all essential aspects—view, meditation, action, and fruit.

In the late afternoon, Rebecca Hufen will introduce the Tibetan language. We ask all participants to let us know in advance their level of knowledge of Tibetan so that Rebecca can prepare accordingly.
